Have you ever written a letter to the editor of your newspaper?
(No, that's not me. I'm old but I'm not that old
I do find though that I am writing more and more letters to the editor these days. I find so many things wrong on this island.
I wonder what people think of my letters. The newspapers usually do publish them, although not all the time.
People probably think I am a cantankerous old lady who has nothing better to do than sit at home and complain.
Maybe they have a point!
Ah, but there is so much to complain about!
Why don't people, including me, ever write letters to the editor that are happy letters. Letters that praise someone. Letters that say good job done.
Have you ever noticed that most letters to the editor are complaints?
My latest letter to the editor has to do with the situation at Mullet Bay Beach Hotel.
I blogged about the online petition to clean it up the other day.
barcann.livejournal.com/tag/mullet+bay+b
Basically this hotel is a disaster. It was damaged during the hurricane in 1995, has had years of court cases involving insurance money and now is a derelict run down place harbouring junkies and squatters.
The SunResorts N.V. has done nothing about this for years, and our various governments have done nothing to pressure SunResorts to clean up the mess.
The head of SunResorts is currently on the island. Since he donated money to start the university years ago, he is being honoured.
Honoured?
He shouldn't be allowed on the island unless he cleans up his mess.
Donating money years ago cannot even come close to making up for allowing Mullet Bay Beach Hotel to lie in ruins all these years.
So of course I had to open my big mouth.
Dear Editor:
Mr. Ansary was honoured by the Island and Central Government? Did I read that headline correct?
Shame on you all!
Barbara Cannegieter
I waasn't the only one opening up my big mouth though.
Someone else wrote a letter to the editor last week.

and today in The Daily Herald, TDH worte a great editorial.

So we are all opening our mouths, signing petitions, and what will happen? Probably nothing!
It's a sad case of affairs!
